Sasha Grey, Dave Navarro Talk Twitter with ABC News

Posted by redrose | Brunette,News,Pornstar | 8:41 PM

NEW YORK – ABC News quoted Sasha Grey and Dave Navarro today in an article about the popularity of Twitter.

“Twitter is my way of keeping up to date with my fans. I can respond to Twitter much quicker than if I was using MySpace,” Sasha told ABC. “We live in a sound bite day and age, and [Twitter] is quite fitting.”

Navarro also endorsed Twitter as a convenient platform of communication.

“It’s a way to bypass all the bullshit,” said Navarro, who directed Sasha in the Teravision release Broken. “It’s great to have an immediate way to respond to something that’s happening that isn’t some lofty blog entry. There are arguments that Twittering is just like screaming into an empty vacuum, but the reality is that the people who are following you want to hear what you have to say.”

Flynt Building Goes Dark for ‘Earth Hour’

Posted by redrose | Adult Business,News | 8:39 PM

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – Larry Flynt will shut down the power in his Wilshire Boulevard office building for one hour on Saturday as part of the World Wildlife Fund’s ‘Earth Hour’.

“We’re hoping people who see such a well-known local landmark so unusually dark will follow our lead and do the same in their own homes,” said Liz Flynt, senior VP of administration for Larry Flynt Publications. “A group effort such as this can lead to real Earth Hour is part of the global Vote Earth campaign. The Golden Gate Bridge, the Colosseum and the Sydney Opera House have all doused their lights in support of the initiative.

The Saturday night blackout puts Flynt in sync with Donny and Marie Osmond, who will lead a symbolic gesture on the Las Vegas Strip as hotels and casinos cut the hellish glare for one hour.

ISPs Rolling Over for RIAA?

Posted by redrose | News | 8:38 PM

Analysis: AT&T to send out warnings, while other ISPs already do so

NEW YORK — Major Internet Service Providers including AT & T have reportedly made deals with the Recording Industry Association of America to address piracy concerns.

According to the Associated Press, AT&T Inc., America’s largest ISP, will start sending warnings to its subscribers when record labels and movie studios claim they are uploading, downloading or exchanging pirated material.

The move was confirmed by AT&T Washington, D.C. executive Jim Cicconi, who said the company will expand a trial program conducted with movie studios last year. The corporation is testing a system with the RIAA, and plans trial runs with other copyright organizations as well.

Other ISPs, including Cox, Comcast and Verizon, already send notices to users who allegedly traffic in pirated content, which could result in possible disconnection, depending on the ISP. But those letters are a point of legal contention.

While rights holders may identify Internet users based on their individual ISP address, they cannot access the subscriber’s name and other information without ISP cooperation.

The public outcry over targeted individuals such as college students and grandmothers, and even a deceased person, has not been good for the RIIA or music business. As a result, the RIIA recently said it would drop lawsuits for the most part and instead work with ISPs to develop a warning and disconnection policy for repeat offenders.

Cox, the fifth-largest ISP in the U.S., sends thousands of notices monthly and has already cut off some customers, according to AP.

Comcast, on the other hand, also forwards warnings but does not cut off Internet access, no matter how many warnings are sent, reports eCommerceTimes.

“Anybody who disagrees with the proposition that Internet Piracy is on the rise and continues to become more complex is simply lying to himself,” adult industry attorney Corey D. Silverstein told AVN. “The simple truth is that for years the RIAA has been trying to curb the amount of piracy by utilizing various techniques, many of which have had little to no effect. The courts on numerous occasions have found ISPs not responsible for the activities of their customers so long as they were not an active participant in the file transfer. The suggestion that some ISPs are participating in some form of ‘three warnings and you’re out’ rule makes little sense and only subjects the ISP to potential liabilities.”

More Women Working In Adult Entertainment

Posted by r4m0ns | Adult Business,News | 1:59 AM

In Tough Economy, Educated, White Collar Workers Are Finding Job Security As “Entertainers”

As a bartender and trainer at a national restaurant chain, Rebecca Brown earned a couple thousand dollars in a really good week. Now, as a dancer at Chicago’s Pink Monkey gentleman’s club, she makes almost that much in one good night.

The tough job market is prompting a growing number of women across the country to dance in strip clubs, appear in adult movies or pose for adult magazines like Hustler.

Employers across the adult entertainment industry say they’re seeing an influx of applications from women who, like Brown, are attracted by the promise of flexible schedules and fast cash. Many have college degrees and held white-collar jobs until the economy soured.

“You’re seeing a lot more beautiful women who are eligible to do so many other things,” said Gus Poulos, general manager of New York City’s Sin City gentleman’s club. He said he got 85 responses in just one day to a recent job posting on Craigslist.

The transition to the nightclub scene isn’t always a smooth one — from learning to dance in 5-inch heels to dealing with the jeers of some customers.

Some performers said they were initially so nervous that only alcohol could calm their nerves.

Bad Ideas

Posted by redrose | Adult Business,News | 11:17 PM

People are not going to agree on lots of things, but actions taken based on certain controversial ideas must be evaluated by their outcome.

Remember what they told us before the first bailout: that this 800-plus billion dollars was needed to save the economy. They rushed through a bill telling us there was no time to waste.

What has happened since then? Things have gotten much worse than at the time of this first bailout… so… did this bailout work? Did the money given to Wall Street bankers help the people of America (aside from the executives at the companies saved from bankruptcy by taxpayer money, so they could still give themselves millions of dollars in bonuses)?

No. This huge welfare-for-rich-people program only seems to have benefited a few people. Can we at least remember that experience now?

Maybe we should try and learn a bit about how the real world works from this experience?

So far it looks like we have learned nothing. A new stimulus program was passed recently by Congress in the same perverse way. We were told again that action needed to be taken immediately or else the sky would fall. There was no time to read the 700-page document listing all the people and organizations that would receive this nearly trillion dollars of taxpayer money. They had to have the money now.

Is this a good idea? All I ask is that we, as a nation, do not now close our eyes to what is happening around us. Please look to see if anything improves because of the stimulus package.

Unfortunately, the first result seems to be that instead of encouraging confidence in business, private employers are now laying people off much more. They see that business is not good and seems to be getting worse, and they are struggling to stay out of bankruptcy.

We are waiting for things to get better.

Turns out he landed himself in jail for digging through Mickey Rourke’s garbage. Fortunately for us, he was able to smuggle out these tasty shots.Click here to see more.

Restoring Consumer Confidence in Adult

Posted by redrose | Adult Business,News | 4:04 AM

A rash of alleged credit card fraud has been carried out in recent months by what would seem to be a small, insidious number of criminals posing as a tiny fraction of the adult industry. The damage done to the industry has come in several forms, including reactionary decisions by MasterCard that limit the ability of honest owners of adult companies to engage in fair and legitimate cross-sell or upsell campaigns. However, the most significant impact of these illegal “carding” operations can be felt in an even more damaging way. Direct feedback from consumers and comments posted by them on message boards suggest that the real casualty of the scam artists is adult online consumer confidence.

At a time when consumers already are facing a flaccid world economy and are tempted to download stolen content for free from pirated tube sites, credit card transactional fraud that causes them to be charged hundreds of dollars from a litany of statement descriptors and merchant accounts initiated by what seemed to be a simple paysite membership purchase has greatly reduced their belief that purchasing adult movies is in any way safer or better than downloading them from risky file-sharing sites, tubes and torrents.

Experienced webmasters are well aware that selling adult content online relies on a number of elements well outside the realm of sexuality. When all aspects of the transactional chain are in smooth working order, sales can be brisk and rebills plentiful. However, even when a webmaster manages everything within their control correctly, it often is the things outside of their control that can sour the balance sheet of their own business. The key question in the wake of so many buyers getting burned by unscrupulous scam-artists is: What can honest, ethical business owners do to restore consumer confidence in quality adult paysites?

“That’s a tough one,” said Q. Boyer, Marketing Manager of TopBucks.com. “There’s a perception that adult sites are scam operations that dates way back to the early days and the shenanigans of outfits like IEG, Babenet and others. So the question may be less how do we ‘restore’ confidence than how we build it in the first place. As for building trust, the answer is to start with your own customers, treating them as valued clients rather than ‘easy marks.’ If you’re going to cross-sell, tell them so, clearly. Email them a reminder notice post-sale thanking them for their patronage and reminding them that in addition to the trial they signed up for, they have also opted for a trial to Site B and that they can check their account status or cancel by clicking a link included in that email.”

Using the straightforward approach and transparent billing practices that Boyer suggests is certain to put the industry on a more trustworthy path in the long term, but in the short term, some industry stalwarts already have taken a more hands-on approach to keeping consumers well informed.

“In the current economy, the last thing we need is customers losing all, or at least what was left, of their faith in the adult industry,” said Roald of FreeOnes.com. “After complaints from our visitors, about half a year ago, we did a few tests, and the results were shocking to say the least. Without any notification or authorization from us, our credit card got billed multiple times, and to date we are still being billed for additional memberships out of the blue.”

In an attempt to regain customer confidence, FreeOnes added a new feature on FreeOnes.com that shows its viewers the potential risk they take if they click a particular link to a specific adult website. This warning system uses a simple icon to inform consumers of unchecked cross-sells or prechecked cross-sells on join pages.

“A cross-sale itself is not that big of a deal when done properly, but the practices we found when testing were just plain credit card fraud, and action needed to be taken,” Roald said. “Needless to say, we also deleted all links from suspected fraudsters.”

Other major review sites including TheBestPorn.com and TheTongue.net have added similar cross-sale notification systems as well.

Several smaller and newer programs have adopted a doom-and-gloom attitude; some affiliate webmasters have been posting about the sky, as if its fall is imminent; and an even larger number of affiliates have decided to start working on mainstream projects instead. However, among solid companies with strong leadership and lengthy histories in the adult online industry, the mentality seemed to be one of disdain for the scammers, with an underlying confidence that this industry setback will be overcome by the hard work and honest efforts of forward-thinking webmasters.

As an extension of the growing movement to fortify consumers, some industry-leading programs are taking steps to demonstrate their honesty and integrity among the webmaster affiliate community as well. One of the first sponsors to take real action in a commendable manner was PIMPROLL.com

“At PIMPROLL, we believe that restoring confidence among consumers is only one part of the solution,” company owner David said. “You also have to empower your affiliates with the ability to make business decisions that follow the dictates of their conscience. Recently, we became the first major PPS company to offer webmasters ‘cross-sell-free’ link options for every site in our portfolio. This marked a watershed event in the industry as we essentially gave our affiliates control over the join-page sales pitch and billing process.

“Since our inception in 2001, we’ve always prided ourselves on integrity, transparency and showing affiliates that we have a long-term focus on success,” David said. “When you demonstrate this with fair and sound business practices, webmasters trust you and sleep well at night knowing that PIMPROLL sites are a safe place for consumers to purchase adult content.”

Terry of Kink.com said doing what is right is about more than just the bottom line. “Ultimately, any company that burns consumers is going to have a very hard time doing business in the long run. There are consequences for every nefarious practice in online marketing, and it all comes back to haunt you.

“Being upfront with the user is critical to running a successful site,” Terry said. “but it’s also just the right thing to do. Kink.com exists to support the idea that sexual freedom of choice is every human’s right, and offering great customer service is very much a part of that.”

When short-term events transpire like this recent wave of short-sighted criminals seeking fast money at the expense of everyone else, it seems that companies with long track records and experience weathering past storms carry a much more optimistic and expansive point of view than many newer webmasters. Perhaps at least part of the problem stems from examples of greed and shady ethics that can be found well outside the adult industry.

“Hustler has the advantage of a far longer history than many adult online companies possess, which leads us to look at the future from a longer point of view as well,” Hustler President Michael Klein said. “It seems clear that some people in this industry have tried taking shortcuts recently, just as some have been taking shortcuts on Wall Street and in Detroit. Hopefully the pendulum will swing back in line quickly before the short-sighted minority does lasting damage to the consumer base that all honest businesses rely upon.”

There is no way to dismiss the recent problems faced by online adult businesses and the erosion of consumer confidence on a scale far larger than any paysite sponsor will be able to overcome on its own. However, the tide might already be turning as card associations, prominent businesses and ethical webmasters take action to strengthen the trust between consumers and join pages that every transaction depends upon.

RI Strip Club Seeks Employees with Saturday Job Fair

Posted by r4m0ns | News | 1:49 AM

PROVIDENCE, RI — Times are tough all over and Rhode Island is no exception. With one of the worst unemployment rates in the United States, job applicants need to think creatively while searching for opportunities. One gentleman’s club in Providence is doing what it can tomorrow to make the search a little more pleasant.

Foxy Lady has one location in Providence and two in the state of Massachusetts. Although each club has felt the economy’s pinch, co-owner Tom Tsoumas assures job seekers that “I need more managers. I need more competent staff – and I need more attractive waitresses to go along with the ones I have right now.”

The exact number associated with “more” is in the neighborhood of 30, ranging from dancers to bartenders and including DJs, managers and bartenders.

In order to fill all of the available positions, potentially with applicants who have never before seriously considered working at a club with adult entertainment, the Foxy Lady is hosting a job fair this Saturday, March 21st.

“So many people in Rhode Island have been hit hard by the economy that we wanted to do our part,” club manager Bob Travisono told the Associated Press, adding for CNN that “We are looking for a diamond in the rough.”

Applicants hoping to escape the state’s 10.5-percent (and city’s 11.5-percent) unemployment pool are encouraged to arrive with a resume and be prepared to fill out a short questionnaire. Travisono anticipates a large crowd for the company’s job fair, based on telephone inquiries.

Known for its “Legs and Eggs” Friday breakfast, the chain is well-known within southern New England and has begun attracting the patronage of rock stars and pro athletes. Although slowing slightly, Travisono assures that business at Foxy Lady “is doing very well” even during these troubled economic times.
